Classes for 2007 - 2008

Through The Entire Bible Discipleship Study. Start this study anytime. Most people have never read the entire Bible, let alone study every chapter verse by verse. The church has available MP3s of Pastor Chuck Smith going line by line through the entire Bible. This is the foundational study Pastor Joe did for his Bible training and highly recommends it to anybody wanting to really know God's Word. Inquire as to how to obtain a copy of the through the Bible MP3s and get started yourself!

Sunday Mornings, January 14 - February 11, EVERY YOUNG MAN'S BATTLE  (lead by Mike Coombs, helping young men to maintain a life of purity)  Sunday Mornings downstairs 9:30 - 10:45   

Wednesday Nights, January 17th - April 4th, FOCUS ON THE FAMILY'S TRUTH PROJECT (lead by Keith Caplet to assist us in gaining a Christian worldview) Annex Building 7:00 - 8:30

Tuesday Feb 13, INTERNET SAFETY presented by Mark Gomez, pastor of Calvary Chapel in Utah. The presentation is for parents, educators, social workers and concerned adults. Followed by Q & A. A great community outreach.  7:00 - 9:00 in the Auditorium.

Wednesday nights March 21 - April 17th @ 7:00 PM FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (this class will help you keep your finances under control)  This class is taught by John Umland and will meet in the annex building.

EVERY YOUNG WOMAN'S BATTLE, SUNDAY DISCIPLESHIP CLASS beginning 9:30 on Sunday mornings beginning April 15th lead by Judith Bass, Rachael Newer and Karla Umland

Wednesday Nights, April 25th - May 23 @ 7:00 PM PARENTING CLASS Tony & Angela Reihl will lead this five week class

Wednesday Night, May 29, HOMOSEXUALITY (are people born gay? What does the Bible say about homosexuality? What did Jesus say? What is a 21th century Christian to believe? Q & A following) Joe Paskewich will lead this one night class and discussion. 7:00 - 9:00 in the annex building.

Wednesday Nights June, July and August DINNER, FELLOWSHIP, OUTSIDE RECREATION, WORSHIP & A BIBLE STUDY  Various pastors, leaders, chaplains from the church and guest speakers every Wednesday night.

Sunday Mornings beginning in September, DATING (If you are single you will definitely want to attend this class) This class is lead by Warren & Kim Rust Sunday mornings from 9:30 - 11:15 downstairs in the church building.

Spiritual gifts and 1 Peter 4:7-11,

7- the end is near, focus and pray

8- LOVE (1 Cor 13)

9- service with a smile

10- Use whatever gifts you’ve been given to serve others (1 Cor12:7) consistently giving out the grace God gave you (Romans 12:6, Eph 4:7)

11- Speaking with God’s words

Romans 12 and spiritual gifts  (From John Umland's Fall 2006 Wednesday Night Class)

notes from my class last week. i actually forgot them, so i didn't actually teach this stuff, but i muddled through the chapter.

1-“therefore” – since God has chosen to save us despite our unworthiness, worship bodily, in deed, not just in music or prayer, but in action, by doing the “one another” stuff

2-“don’t conform, be transformed, be renewed” which results in the ability to “test and approve God’s will.”

3- be humble

4-5- we form Christ’s body (is there some play on offering our bodies and being described as members of His body?)

6-7- we have different gifts

9-21 – LOVE

just like the letter to the Corinthians, the gifts are placed in the context of love and worship. We have a vertical relationship with God, and using our gifts for each other’s benefit is an act of adoration of Him and his body. We have many horizontal relationships that we need to exude love into. We share our gifts from God with each other without restraint. If we refrain from using our gifts we short circuit the love that the Father wants to express to our siblings through us. And our love doesn’t stop with our friends. vv. 17-21 are about loving our enemies and those who are evil to us, which is what God did to us before he wooed us into the kingdom.

Anyway its telling to me that 2 verses mention gifts and 12 discuss love. Gifts need to be exercised with love. Without love, we are annoying, see 1 Corinthians 13:1
